Following the successful introduction of the Miniature Solid State (MS2) Gyro in 2012, VES’s engineering team continued to look for ways to improve the product offering. In 2013, it introduced the MiNS tool. The MiNS, housed in a 1.2” high pressure thermal shield, is the world’s first sub 1" high accuracy northseeking gyro survey instrument.

The MiNS uses state-of-the-art dynamically tuned gyro sensors. It can be run at high temperatures and provides high accuracy northseeking gyro surveys in small diameter wellbores. The MiNS system is run in a surface readout mode on a wireline at speeds of up to 250 feet per minutes.

With increased levels of infill drilling activity and the associated resurvey requirements, the MiNS is intended for use in production well survey applications where small diameter tubing restrictions are often encountered. The MiNS instrument eliminates the need to pull and replace tubing in order to run conventional larger diameter survey systems.

The system is field proven to be highly reliable and the smallest northseeking rate gyro available today.

Advanced software calibration techniques and an easy-to-use Drillog™ application software interface combine to make the MiNS system unique in the market today.

MiNS Advantages:

  • World’s smallest northseeking gyro system, which for the first time enables gyro surveys to be run in ultra small diameter wellbores (1.25”)
  • Fast, high accuracy, northseeking gyro survey system can be operated at extended depths and temperatures
  • Built-in application flexibility, with unique operating features making it a leading product offering to the industry
